Adoption Process

Please be aware that since we are a very small organization we take pride in matching you with a lifetime companion. Most of the dogs have come into rescue very sick and scared so we make every effort to make your house, our rescue's "last stop".  Therefore, we would like the chance to get to know you and to give you the opportunity to get to know the companion you are considering adopting.

Second Chance Rescue adoption fees are $275.00 unless otherwise specified. THIS COVERS ALL SHOTS AND NEUTER/SPAY.  ALL DOGS ADOPTED ARE HEARTWORM NEGATIVE UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED AT TIME OF APPLICATION.

Our adoption process involves several steps to ensure that the pet you adopt is the best match for your family.

Steps for Adoption:

Step 1 - Adoption Application:   The adoption process begins with the adoption application. Anyone wishing to adopt one of our dogs must first fill out an adoption application form.  Upon receipt of your application, both your references and veterinarian will be contacted.   Please click our Adoption Application to download.  When prompted, please save your adoption application to a place that you will remember (we recommend your Desktop).  The application is a fillable form.  Please fill in the blanks.  Do not be concerned with a signature as we will ask for that upon completion of your adoption.  Save your application using your last name.  For example:  JonesSCapplication.doc.  Email your application to lmr735@aol.com.

Step 2 - Phone Interview:  After your application has been reviewed and references have been checked and if you are approved, you will be contacted by phone to discuss the animal you wish to adopt.

Step 3 - Meeting the Dog(s):   Following the phone interview, arrangements will be made for you to meet the dog you wish to adopt. This meeting usually takes place at the home where the animal is being fostered. If you have other dogs in your home we strongly recommend that you bring along your dog(s) to this meeting to make sure that all animals are compatible. All household members must be present to meet the animal. Additional meetings at your house may be arranged.

Step 4 - Adoption Contract:  Once the adoption has been approved we will contact you again to finalize the adoption (this can also be done at the time of the home visit or meeting the animal, as long as all other requirements have been met).  At this time you will be asked to review and sign the Adoption Agreement Contract and settle the adoption fee.
