Happy Tails

This is our favorite page on the website!  Dogs in this section have found a happy home with their adoptive families through Second Chance.  Once you have adopted a dog through Second Chance Dog Rescue, we would love to post your "Happy Tails" story and pictures here. Please email your stories and pictures to lmr735@aol.com.

Second Chance Dog Rescue is proud to announce the following adoptions that have taken place since 2004.  Most of the dogs that come into Second Chance Dog Rescue were either on their final days or very close to it. Each of the dogs that are taken into the rescue are examined by the vet and provided with all shots, as well as they are neutered or spayed and heartworm tested. The majority of the dogs are often very sick and may also need time to just "feel better". For many of you that adopted from us, our house was just the first step; your home has become your new pet's final step in finding his/her "forever home".  Hopefully, as time has gone on, your new friend is settling in and the pain that we once saw in his eyes is turning into the joy of knowing that his forever home is one that is filled with love and security.

Please view our adoptions by year:

Second Chance Dog Rescue would like to would like to wish each of these families the best of luck.  Without each of you, our rescue group would not have been as successful as it has been.

Sincerely yours,
Lisa Roosa and Jesse Reeve

Abby (Formerly Chelsee)

Hi Lisa,

We received the final adoption packet for Abby (Chelsee) a while back, thank you.  Here's an update for you and the website.  I've also attached some photos.

At 6 months, Abby is a 40 pound "bull in a china shop".  Her wagging tail is quite lethal and her curiosity keeps her involved in everything.  She loves to rough-house, and because she plays so hard she's never met a meal she didn't like.  Abby also enjoys hiking and splashing around in streams.  She loves people, especially kids because the shorter they are, the easier it is to give kisses.  Abby also likes to clean the cats' ears, and when they're not looking she enjoys pulling feathers out of their toys.  But despite all other distraction, Abby's favorite thing in the whole world is her big sister, Naya.  And because Naya knows her doggy commands, Abby does too.  They have such fun personalities and they compliment each other well.  Abby is even learning bits and pieces of the "husky howl" language.

Laura & Robb :)

We changed Chelsee's name to Abby shortly after we adopted her and she is loving life!  I've attached some pictures of her with our newest family member, with her "sister" and best friend, Naya, and a picture of her romping in the snow.  She is such an outdoorsy kind of dog, but she also loves her oversized dog beds!  She can run faster than any other dog at the dog parks and can jump a six foot fence with ease.  And she still wags her whole body when she gets excited!

Andy

Lisa,

Andy is doing great.  He's now a bed dog.....  Slept the first night in his crate, Saturday I took him to bed with me and he's been there ever since.   He loves to walk on a leash and was a very good boy when I gave him a bath.

We're in love with each other......

Angel

Hi Lisa,

We have been so busy these past few months, that I have not kept you updated on Angel. I enrolled her in Basic Obedience Training and she was terrified of the large dogs. She would not leave my side, and would not try to do anything except head for the door. I took her twice and she was so nervous I thought it was not worth it. She went one day to "Puppy Care" she did not socialize with the others, but sniffed around and I think enjoyed the day. She is very spoiled. She and mother have a routine and it is funny to watch how they interact and keep each other company. I have never seen a companion that fits so well into our lifestyle and she seems happy as a lark. I know we can't think of how things were without her. She loves to sleep with us and she spends part of the night with Mother and the rest of the night with me. Thank you again for sharing Angel with us. I hope to have some pictures before too long.

Blessings,
Sarah and Angel too! :>)

Annie (formerly Gretta)

Annie is eating really well and playing well.  She enjoys snuggling in my lap when she's sleeping.  It's funny because I took her off my lap and put her beside me because i needed to work on my laptop...she looked at me like "are you kidding" and sleepily climbed back up and nestled half on my lap and half on the keyboard.  So she's a LOT more snuggly than I expected, which is fine with me.  She's taken to walking on the leash, and she's fascinated by her jingling tag when she walks....she keeps looking down to try to find out what the noise is...which is comical to watch. I take her out in the night time and have a flashlight with me and she loves to chase the light when I bounce it on the pavement a few feet in front of her.

Lisa, it's been awhile but I thought I'd send you a picture of our friend Annie.  She is a great ball catcher and as you can see, she lives pretty good.  Thank you very much.  She's a great dog!

Axle

Lisa,

I want to thank you for providing us with a wonderful match for our family.  He is sweet and lovable and well behaved.  My two boys love him and showing him off to all their friends and the entire neighborhood.  He is gentle and tolerant of all and we could not be happier. He slept with my sons last night and he did great. The boys were in heaven and he did not have an accident.  (I was in heaven).

We are getting lots of exercise together.  Yesterday, I walked him almost four miles (1 mile at 6 am before everyone is up), one mile to take kids to school (1/2 mile each way), 1 mile to pick them up and a mile with my husband around 9:00.  When the kids come home from school, they played with him till it started to rain and ran him more in the yard. He seems very well adjusted and likes to stay with me.  He is at my feet when I am at home (working at the computer or making dinner, etc).

Bailey

Thought I would send some current pictures your way...I saw online that Jackson is still available...Bailey is a DEAD RINGER for her brother...

Beau

Hi Lisa and Jesse,

Beau is an absolute joy.  He has brought so much love into our home I cannot even describe it.  From the moment he arrived it was if he had been here since birth.  He fit in immediately.  He is so funny that sometimes I laugh until I cry.  As soon as his paws hit the ground outside, he flips over on his back and rolls around in the grass. Then he is off to growl around with his toys.  Running around in circles, toy in mouth and growling all the while.  He is extremely bright.  It only took 2-3 times of showing him the doggie door and he had it mastered.  He has since learned to sit using both voice and/or hand signals.  His vet says he is in great health, perfect weight.  His vet was truly amazed at what a great dog he is. She told me I definitely had "a winner".  I agree with her completely.  At night he waits until I am settled into bed and here comes the little guy.  He jumps up on the bed (I am amazed at how high he can jump given his size and all).  He looks for his perfect spot which always happens to be up against me, and burrows underneath the covers! And I mean completely underneath the covers.  Thank you so much for bringing Beau and I together.  He is truly a blessing.

Regards,

Laura

Benni

We couldn't be happier with Benni and with Second Chance Rescue.  Now our family is complete!  Jen

Benni and Maddie

By the way Benni is so cool- thanks for everything!  He is so fast!  He creeps up next to you without you even hearing him and he outruns everyone.

Later,
Jen

Brittney

Here are some pictures of Brittney and Wilson playing.  She seems very happy.

Wilson and Brittney get along great.  I think Wilson is very happy to have a little sister.  Brittney is settling into her new environment very well.  She's only had accident's in the house on her first day.  Since we bought the crate she seems more at home.  She's adjusted to the invisible fence.  She seems to know where the boundaries are.  I'm hoping to take pictures of the children this weekend to send you.  Attached is a picture of Brittney after one of her hunting expeditions.  She's muddy from head to toe.  She was trying to get something that went under the shed.  She will spend hours digging through the leaves looking for field mice and those lizards with blue tails.

Regards, Connie Lipscomb

Buckette (Formerly LuLu)

Lisa,

We just wanted to send you and update on Buckette (Lulu). She is doing very well as you can see and now has a kitten for a brother. Mop (get it, Mop and Bucket??) is a rescue kitty also and just loves to jump on Bucket's tail which is CONSTANTLY wagging. We all love her and she is finally complete now with her Mop!

Thanks, Jeff

Lisa,

Buckett is doing very well as you can see.  We rescued another dog this year, the Jack Russell Corgi mix and he gets along just great with everyone.  Buckette is still as lulu as ever, you sure had that name right!  Anyhow, just wanted to drop you a note letting you know we love Buckette VERY much and we thank you for your work.

 Cali

Hi Lisa,

I thought you'd like to see some puppy pictures that were taken this week.  Her name has changed again, but this time it will stick and the new name is Cali.  I made it official when I had the ID tag inscribed!  She's a sweet dog and we are truly enjoying her.   Thanks so much for helping us to get Cali; she's a great addition to the family.

Hey Lisa!  Just stopping by to say a quick "hi".  Cali sends her love...she is getting SO big.  We took her for a walk in the rain on Friday and she had a ball running through the mud puddles!

Chili

Chili is part of the best 9 puppies.

  UPDATED 11/05:

Lisa,

My friend's four-year-old wanted to trick or treat with Chili and go as princesses.  Chili opted for Snow White, or should I say Snow Mutt.  As you can tell by the look on her face, she was ecstatic.  Chili is doing great.  I am looking forward to our first holiday season together.

Chamois (Formerly Buffet)

Chamois (Buffet) is doing extremely well.  He loves going to the beach with us and chasing everything that doesn't chase him first.  He is full of energy and loves to play with other dogs no matter what size they are as well as our nine cats.  He just turned one on March 1st.  He has grown a lot and is now about the size of a large cat.  Since he first got here we have gotten three more cats and some chickens.  Another one of his pastimes is playing tag with our two daughters.  All in all he is just a happy little boy.

Clay

Hi Lisa,
Allen and I have one son who is 5 years old.  He is an only child, and unfortunately, always will be.  I have never had a pet in all of my life, and I really wanted one for Patrick.  I knew he would love the companionship.  At work one day, I went to your web site through the shelter's web site and the first picture I clicked on was Clay.  It was just about a week later that we adopted him.  He was truly the perfect dog for us.  He was obviously scared at first but it didn't take long to warm up.  Patrick LOVES his dog, and Allen and I adore him as well.  He loves t
o be close and loves to be loved and he gets plenty of it here.  You can actually tell that he is appreciative of his new family as we are able to provide him with all of the things that he should have had.  Patrick and I took a nap today on my bed and when we woke up, Clay was smack dab in the middle of us, snoring like a freight train.  It was really funny.  We have not only provided him with a better life, but he has provided us with lots more love and giggles.  Thanks for giving us the chance to have him, as I can't even imagine life without him now.

Hugs, Kath

  This message is from Patrick:

Dear Miss Lisa,

We love Clay a lot and we give him a lot of kisses and we pet him.  When you scratch on his ears that makes him fall asleep.

UPDATE 09/19/2005:

Hi Lisa!

Well things have changed around here a bit with our routine.  Patrick is going to Kindergarten now, and his "Clay boy" loves to go to the bus stop in the morning.  He waits by the door as soon as a I put his leash on.  He loves to sniff the other kids' for some silly reason.  In the mornings Clay will wait out in the loft looking into Patrick's room.  When his alarm goes off he jumps up into his bed and kisses the heck out of him because he knows it's time for him to get up. When he greets him off the bus he's so excited sometimes he dribbles!  They have really become best buds. It took some time on Clay's part, but it really warms my heart to see them together.  When we went to back to school night last night some of the art work displayed had almost everything to do with "Clayboy"!  So as you know Clay is doing great. He has been shedding since May and it seems there is no stopping it.  I have to vacuum/dry mop every day or my wood floors look like they are blanketed by dog fur!  Oh, and the Clay"dos" as Allen says, are not so fun!  We are really enjoying him!  I hope all is well with you and the rescue.

Hugs, Kathryn

Collin

Collin is doing very well.  He is very happy, healthy and well adjusted.  He has been easy to manage.

Cooper

Hi Lisa, I just wanted to send you a couple of pictures of Cooper.  I think it’s just past our one year anniversary with Cooper and I wanted you to know how much he has become a part of our family.  He’s been the best dog ever, with such a laid-back, sweet personality.  My sister-in-law jokingly begs me to give him to her as he is great around her one year old baby, but there is absolutely nothing that could take Cooper away from us.  I’m so glad he’s a part of our lives now.  Enjoy the pictures!   Best, Samara Presley

Cosmo

Hey Lisa,

I lost track of time - vacation - kids - work.

I have attached a picture of Cosmo.  I absolutely love the little guy.

Daisy Duke

Dear Lisa,

Daisy has learned sit, shake, lie down, and rollover. She does not understand "stay" yet.  She loves to run while carrying a Frisbee (or anything really) in her mouth, and she likes to walk on the piano keys while I'm playing.  She's so sweet and so funny, I can't imagine anyone would ever want to give her up.  I feel lucky to have found her, and I have you to thank for it.

Lee

Diva

Lisa,

Just a quick long over-due note on Diva,  She's absolutely great. She's still  the baby girl in the house.  We've discovered she loves to hang out in the pool (on the board) w/ us, she loves boating, chasing the cats, eating cat food, un-deniable-ly hates to have her nails clipped, loves sleeping in a doll bed in Julia's room, loves a good bath, and hanging out w/ Romeo (the Parrot), she loves to eat bird poop $%^^&#. Yes, she does. Anyway I could go on  on she's got lots of spunk & personality & is right at home here- no matter what we do she hangs w us!  I hope all is well.  Just Passing along good news.

Sheila Lewis

Dixie

Lisa,

It has been almost 5 years since I got Dixie  from you and she is just like family.  She actually listens better than my kids do.  Anyway I figured I would let you know how she is doing.  Talk to you later.

Thanks - David

Doug (Formerly Buster)

We just love this dog! Thank you so much! Have a great 2005!
John and Sherrie

Emily

Hi Lisa!

Just a quick note to let you know that Emily is doing FABULOUS!  She is VERY bonded to me and I am VERY bonded to her -- we are definitely smitten over each other!~ She is getting 5 walks a day and has a basket of toys and sleeps with me and has free range of the condo when I'm not home. She is doing well with the other dogs she's meeting in the neighborhood.

FINALLY I have some pictures for you!  Emily is doing sooooo well.  She has made tons of friends in Fairlington.  She loves to chase her squeaky ball in the big grassy area behind our building.  And she loves to chase squirrels, which I of course only allow her to do in safe areas.  She stays close to me and when we're out walking, she's constantly looking up at me.  One neighbor whose Mom used to show dogs said that Emily has a perfectly stacked stance and that she looks like a show dog when we walk because she is always glancing up at me.  I LOOOOOVE this dog!!! Thanks again so much for rescuing her!  And thanks to the person/people in Southwest VA that rescued her from the campground. Could you forward this e-mail to them?  I would love to be in touch with the person who found her!

How is retirement? Are you traveling yet??? How is Bodie??? And how are your other "kids" doing?

Patti

Ginger

Hi Lisa! Ginger is doing fantastically well. She is quite a character and has us all wrapped around her paws :) She's gained a bit of weight (the vet says she 'perfect') and truly is a ball of fun! She loves to give lots of kisses and is having a great time with the boys. She's enjoying sleeping in our big bed with us at night, but I bet she'd enjoy it more if we let her sleep alone in it ;) In late July, during a trip to Ginger's favorite place--Petsmart, we happened upon a rescue event going on there. We met a little Chihuahua and fell in love with him. We renamed him Skippyjonjones (after the series of children's books about a Siamese kitten who thinks he is a Chihuahua in his fantasy world). It took him a bit to warm up as he'd had a rough life, but Ginger taught him the love of playing with toys and now they are best buds. They truly have rounded out our family and we cannot imagine life without them. I became very ill in early July & was hospitalized in ICU for about 10 days. Once I came home, Ginger was velcroed to my side and took fantastic care of me. She prefers to be where we are, so she never ventures far from us either inside or outside. She's great on a harness and loves to go on hikes with Brad & the Boys. Skippy would much rather ride along in his carry pack :) We hope all is well for you and all the animals at your rescue. They are so very lucky to have you to care for them, and we feel that you are the reason why Ginger 'fit' perfectly with us. Within 24hrs she'd completely bonded. That shows that she learned how to trust from you :) Did you adopt out all of those adorable puppies? When we came to bring Ginger home, they were just born, and oh-so-sweet. I thought we were going to have to check Jared's pockets on the way out since he was so in love with them :) If he had his way, we would've taken ALL of them home!

Since a full year has passed since we adopted Ginger, I thought I'd give you another update. Ms. Ginger rules the roost!  She is a bundle of energy and love that seriously likes to eat!  She's a bit chunkier than when we got her (I almost fell over at her yearly checkup when they told me she was 20 lbs!!) despite giving her weight control dog food.  She finds a way to get food off our high countertops (former owner was the jolly green giant) and has even figured out a way to get food out of Skippy's crate with her long tongue!  But she is a happy, silly, funny girl and we can't imagine life without her in our family.  My grandmother even asks how the dogs are before asking about her great-grandchildren!  We had Ginger's cherry-eye fixed in January, and wouldn't you know--it came back, and she even had one in the other eye for a bit but that has resolved itself without surgery.  We are waiting until fall to take her back to have it fixed, but she's gorgeous none-the-less :)

We like to take the dogs on outings every weekend and since the weather is nice, we've been exploring the different state parks and some brand spankin' new dog parks right near us.  I'm going to attach some pics of both Ginger and her 'brother' Skippyjonjones.  I managed to catch some dog 'smiles' on film and they are priceless!!

I hope all is well with you, Jesse, and all of your dogs :)

Warm regards,
Amy, Brad, Dylan, Jared, Ginger & Skippyjonjones

Gracie (Formerly Sassy)

Attached please find just a few of many more to come of (Sassy) Gracie pictures.  I've got some more to come after I get them developed.  Gracie did very well with Sit, Down, Swivel (laying on side) Come Commands.  We finally conquered the Potty training at home.  We are now dealing with the evening barking. Other than that all is going well.  She's gained weight.  She is up to 14lbs.  Again, thanks for the opportunity of the adoption.  It's been fantastic having her with us. Gracias!!!!!

Hello, Gracie is doing great and again, Thanks.  Training is on going as is the playing. She has adapted graciously and everyone in the neighborhood are in love with her.  She even gets along with the oddest of dogs as well.  She is a blessing.  We are very happy with her and she feels at home.

                                                                  Jose' R. Ortiz

Lucy (Formerly Honey)

Just a quick update....Honey is now Honey-Lu...all the women in the house want to call her Lucy (cause she's always got some splain'in to do lol) but Travis worries she will be traumatized w/a new name...so we compromised and agreed to Honey-Lu....(I'll probably still call her Lucy...it just fits, I don't know why....) Anywho....here is a pic of Honey-Lu and Rachel before the cut....not too much difference, except her fur is soooooo soft! Enjoy and look for more closer to the holidays!!

Miss Honey-Lu went to the beauty parlor today (Petsmart) and was pampered! Had a bath, haircut, had her nails done and did just marvelous! The gal that groomed her said she was shaking but never nipped, yipped or cried....so she got big treats for doing so well! She did really well in the truck too except somehow between her and Jake they figured out how to roll down the window in the back...YIKES! I thought we were going to have jumpers for a min! lol never thought I'd have to use the lock feature for my dogs, kids maybe, but my dogs? lol Smarter than you think!!

B

She’s such a character Lisa….you know when we first adopted her I just wasn’t sure things were going to work ….and now…I can’t imagine life without her!  She’s become so attached to me and my mother…..when we leave she just whimpers and paces until we get home ….but if we both leave the house….she howls!  Saddest sound known to man!!  My kids can’t stand it….lol  They’ve almost banned us from leaving together!   And when I took Jake in to be neutered, she cried the entire day he was gone….and then stayed with him for the next 24 hours….sniffing him and cuddling with him…..what a Mom!! Hehe

Kenobi

I attached a new picture, Kenobi is so sweet and cute.  He was definitely the right pick for us!! I knew he would be from the begining:)  The kids and even Rusty has become best of friends.

Kayla

Not sure if you remember us (Chris and Catherine Gardner); we adopted Kayla, a black lab puppy from you 4 years ago (the litter was born in early April 2005). I got your newsletter today, and just wanted to share with you that Kayla is healthy and doing well, always full of energy and fun. She loves to "stalk" the crickets and other small critters that hide in the tall grasses and shrubs at the back of our yard. She and big sis Jasmine (husky) "hunt" together almost every day. Besides patrolling the yard, her favorite activities are playing fetch and play-dates with her boyfriends- Clancy (golden retriever) and Baxter (mixed breed ???). Glad to hear the rescue organization is doing well!

Take care,
Catherine

Leeloo (formerly Precious)

Hi Lisa,
Just wanted to let you know that Leeloo's doing very well. I graduated college last May and she's been spending the summer with me at my parents' house, enjoying the rural setting and barking her head off at the deer. My mom greatly appreciates having the "grand-dog" around the house. In a few weeks, she'll be coming to San Diego with me to start graduate school and meet her two new dog-friendly housemates. I'm especially excited to take her to the Dog Beach out there!

Leeloo's really blossomed from the first few weeks we had her in Baltimore. She's very vocal now, and she demands attention by squeezing under your arm or jumping into your lap. She also has gotten a little spoiled, I'm afraid - the floor isn't good enough for her, she prefers the couch, and she just looks too cute on it for anyone to shoo her away. She still doesn't really like other dogs, unless they're really elderly and sedate. She loooooooves people though, and she actually will hold your hand down with her paws and cover it in dog kisses. Here's one more picture I forgot about, I think you'll like it - it's from last Halloween

Bari Braunstein

Hi Lisa,

Happy holidays!  I hope
things are going well for you and Second Chance Rescue.

Leeloo is just as adorable and spoiled as ever.  My boyfriend Jimmy (same one that came with me to adopt Leeloo all those years ago) and I bought a condo here in San Diego about a year ago, and Leeloo has the whole neighborhood wrapped around her little paw.  Every morning on her walk, we have to stop at each neighbor sitting out on their porch so everyone gets a chance to pet her.  We've trekked all over Balboa Park (my favorite non-beach scenic walking spot), and people just can't get over what a cutie she is!  She's still not entirely comfortable with other rambunctious dogs, but she warms up if she sees them regularly.  Her current best friend, other than her - I mean Jimmy's - cat, is an enormous lab/pit mix that lives next door.  She jumps up on the couch so the two of them can play face to face!  I'll have to see if I can get a picture of that; it's too cute for words.  I took her to some obedience classes to help her get used to having other dogs around in a more controlled environment than the dog park, and she was the star of the class.  Since she already knows basically every trick I could possibly dream up to teach her, she got to demonstrate all the commands for the rest of the dogs!  Next, I'm hoping to get her enrolled in agility classes (she already jumps like a champ; she's so smart!).

Anyway, here are a few pictures for you, and then I'd better put down the laptop - Leeloo's getting jealous!  ~~ Bari

Lefty

Hi Lisa, Wanted to send you some pictures of Lefty at home! She's so smart and has a ton of puppy play in her! She'll wake up only to belly rubs on her bed in the morning (my favorite!) Thanks for everything!

Sincerely, Kim

Lexie

Hi Lisa,

Hope all is well with you and 2nd Chance Dog Rescue.  We took pictures for Christmas cards today.  This is one of may favorites of the dogs, but the Santa Dog Stops Here sign got chopped off so we had to use another for the Christmas cards (we will send you one of those as well).

We celebrated Lexie's birthday on December 8.  She is a wonderful puppy - full of energy!  Looks like she will weigh about 42 lbs.  She finally got tall enough so that she cannot easily run under Buddy now - thank goodness for Buddy's sake, as she was really tripping him up.

Lexie LOVES balls.  She loves all toys, but balls seem to be a favorite - she likes to toss them at us and then bark if we don't promptly stop what we are doing to play with her.

She has brought great joy and much laughter to our household.  Buddy will not play with her (he turned 12 on December 12), but we think he likes having her around and would miss her if she were not around.

We are constructing the house in Stafford.  I told my husband that once we get settled, we may have to get a playmate for Lexie.  Merry Christmas, Julie Finnegan

Hi Lisa,

Here is a picture of our beautiful Lexie taken last month.  She is such a sweet girl.  We lost our beloved Buddy on Memorial Day.  We found out on March 14 that he had hemangiosarcoma in his heart.  We tried everything we could think of to help him, but our beautiful boy could not overcome such an aggressive cancer.  We are just heartbroken and poor Lexie is lost without him.  We are checking into doggie day care for her for right now.  We hope to be in the new house by late summer.  Hope all is well with you.   Julie

Maggie (Formerly Joy)

Yes Joy has a new name Maggie Mae. Maggie is getting back to herself, starting to chew on things, running around the house like a wild girl (which the kids love). She's already been to Petco, and had a wonderful time.

Jennifer

Maya (Formerly Misty)

Hi Lisa,
Maya here, my Mom is writing this for me. I LOVE my new home, the 2 legged people are so kind to me. I've made friends on all most evey floor. oh the room that moves is fun. It goes up and down then the door just opens. Mom is being very careful with me. We go out then back in. She tells all I just had surgery so be careful with me.

Mom said next week I can have play dates with my friend Baily. You know that there is a 4 legged that lives here that's different from me. I give him a lot of respect, and so far we are getting along.

That's all for now.

Ms. Jelly Belly

Hey Lisa - Here are a few photos of Jelly. The white dog is my mom's and apparently Jelly didn't care about sitting on her in her crate! She just  wanted to snuggle.  Enjoy - Katie

Thought you'd enjoy these photos of Jelly and her boy. FYI, he's trying desparately to feed her rocks!!! Isn't her reaction classic? And LOOK at the belly on her!

Mystic

Hi Lisa,

So glad to hear you keep copies of everything!  You probably have our address then as well??!!  Mystic looks much like her mom if my memory serves me correctly.  I always thought Rigby had a beautiful face and Mystic looks much like I recall Rigby looking!

I've attached a few pics so you can see what she looks like now.  (She is almost as photographed as or children!!)  We are so fortunate to have found her through you....  You can see she is a part of the family...  There is one picture of her our cat Oreo also :  )  Brett and I laugh and say no person can get as comfortable as she can make herself on our bed or the couch!!  :  )  She is really a wonderful dog that we love and is part of our family :  )

Thank you so much!!

Linda

Nancy

Peanut (formerly Madeline)

Hello,
I was cleaning out a cabinet and finally found all of Peanut's (formerly Madeline) paper work from my adoption of her through you in 06/2003. I just wanted to send a few pics of how she has turned out. She is quite the little eater! She loves to lay and stare at her sisters food (Riley the Australian Shepard who I adopted a 2 years ago). Peanut is definitely the boss. Anyway, just thought I would send you an update since I am not sure I ever did in the past. She is healthy and happy and is a little ball of energy, when she isnt sleeping or eating!

Thanks,

Frank Carnevale (in Pennsylvania)

Petey

Hi Lisa and Jessie,

I wanted to send you a few updated pictures of Petey.  He is doing so well. This spring he got a new brother named Rudy.  Petey graduated from both a beginner and intermediate class.  A day or so after we adopted him we discovered that he was deaf.  Through the dog training courses we have been able to communicate with him better through sign language.  Petey is very intelligent and learns quickly.  Petey's brother Rudy is a about the same age. They enjoy playing together and Rudy helps Petey by giving him cues.  Petey is about 33 pounds now, but he still thinks of himself as a lap dog.  He sleeps in between my husband and me every night and takes up half of the bed. Thank you for your news letters.   Leigh Harris

Penny

Hi Lisa,
Penny Lane Davis says hi! Penny is doing really well and she is a wonderful dog!!  She is very smart and really seems to love it here with us. She looks good, eating well and sleeping well. She runs a lot in the backyard and likes to fetch. I am going to get her a frisbee to play with. She likes to jump in the air to catch things. She is good with Elizabeth and has learned that she is not supposed to run and jump on her and knock her over. :-)

Take care and keep up the great work your are doing saving lives.
Claiborne Davis

Roscoe and Lovie (formerly Suzie)

Dear Lisa and Jesse,

I want to thank your for Lovie and Roscoe. They are wonderful dogs. All of us are happy. Lovie is sweet, swift, friendly and alert. I am just getting to know beautiful Rosco. They all get along. Thank you Lord! I never thought I would have 4 dogs. Each one is special. Rosco is the barker. He might become the watch dog. You two do a fine job caring for the dogs and finding new homes for them. Congradulations! Jennifer really loves Roscoe. The Brittany is her Princess. She gets extra special treatment. Jazz hooks up with Lovie. Roscoe wont sleep on the bed. Lovie and Jazz sleep under my canopy. They have the good life. I've never seen a dog run as fast as Lovie. Thanks! Thanks!  Sincerely, Sandra

Rusty

These are from this morning.  Back to sleep on the couch and breakfast.   Thanks for such a wonderful brother for Tux!

They are doing very well.  We made it to 5:30 this morning. More pics!

Sammy

Dear Foster Mommy!

I've been behaving just like you told me, and being a really good boy! My new Daddy came home early today because his office got flooded out, so I was only home for a couple of hours by myself. And guess what! My daddy gets to stay home with me tomorrow too! We went for a walk to the pond near our house, and we went fishing! And then we sat outside on the deck to enjoy the nice weather and I slept in daddy's lap while he worked on his computer.

I met some new doggy friends tonight when we went to Allie's lacrosse practice! I made friends with a baby bull dog, and she was WAY bigger than me! And I met two Dacschund - a boy and girl. We all played together for awhile, and even though I was the smallest one there, I showed them I could hang with the big dogs! All the mommy's at the park fell in love with me and wanted to take me home, but I told them I already have a special home.

The cats are slowly starting to come around, and Mandy is even starting to hang out in the same room with me now, but she just watches me. Crystal is slowly working her way down the steps (they say she's afraid of everything), so I just pretend like I don't see her.

Tell all my friends I miss them, especially Mommy Honey!

Love and miss you all!
Sammy

Sawyer (Formerly Expresso)

Lisa,

I have attached a picture of Sawyer that we took a few weeks ago when we went hiking. It was his first hike and he absolutely loved it! As you can see, he has gotten much bigger and he is just over 40 pounds. As he got older, he started looking less like a terrier and more like a shephard, but the vet doesn't think he will get much bigger. He also has one ear that stands up and one that flops over. He is incredibly social, loves everyone meets, and plays with all the other dogs in the neighborhood.

I wanted to say thank you so much for all you have done for us. We feel so lucky to have Sawyer in our lives and happy to know that we rescued him. I am so thankful that I came across your rescue...you are doing such a wonderful thing for these animals.

Sincerely,
Jill

Scout

Hi Lisa,

I hope all is well. We just received your newsletter and I thought that I would send you an update on Scout.

We got Scout from Second Chance Dog Rescue about a year and a half ago and we are a very happy little family. He is a pure black Puggle that is a perfect mixture of energy and love. He loves running in the backyard, going for walks/runs, and even going out on the boat in his little life jacket. He is a lot of fun to play with and he is a quick learner as we have taught him some agility tricks like jumping through a hula hoop and doing some obstacles. He loves the attention when he shows off in front of company. A real crowd pleaser is when he jumps into our arms and tucks his feet under so that he can be caught.

He has a good amount of energy but he cuddles just as much. He is a huge lap dog and always has to be touching us. If we are watching TV, Scout goes back and forth with who he wants to lay with. He will push so hard into us to get as close to us as he can that it can push us off the couch or bed. His favorite thing is to lay on this back and get people to rub his belly. He can't get enough of that. If you stop rubbing his belly, he puts his front feet together and kicks in the air to tell you that he wasn't done. It's really cute.

We have to admit that he is a little spoiled with his own big basket of toys and all the attention that he gets. We are very happy with him and I just want to thank you for giving us the opportunity to give him the love that he deserves.

Please see some attached pictures of Scout on vacation in North Carolina.

Best Regards,
Laurie, Dave, and Scout Bell

Shadow (Formerly Katie)

Dear Lisa,

Here are some pictures of our little Katie (formerly named Shadow)! She is having a great time running around in the doggy park, and lets us know when its time to go. She is very well behaved and calm most of the time, but she still loves to play and wrestle around. We love her very much, and every day she meets more people that always fall in love with her! Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to adopt such a wonderful dog. I couldn't imagine life with out that silly girl!

Nina

Shelby

She's doing great. She's got such a playful personality.  She loves to run around and especially loves soccer.  I'm still waiting to see how big she's going to get, I looked at some of her older photos and she's already grown a bit. Well, thanks for everything I'll be sure to keep in touch.

Smokey

Hi Lisa,

Just wanted to update you on Smokey. I am sending a picture of Dan (our son) and me with Smokey. He seems very happy here and he is doing well. He has gained a lot of weight (but not too much) and I am feeding him some good dog food from a store near Richmond. I did some investigating on the internet and I was amazed at all of the good dog food out there that I had never heard of. I am currently feeding him Innova. His coat looks great. We gave him a bath last week and he loved it.

He is such a good dog. He has really calmed down a lot in six months. He is very playful and gets along great with Rocky, although Rocky is too old to play very much. We have taken Smokey to obedience classes. All in all, he is living the good life and is part of our family.  Janet Gray

January 2006 It has been a year now since we brought Smokey home and he has really become a part of our family. He has calmed down considerably and everyone in the family loves him. He has a great personality and he is just a great big clown. He looks wonderful and has put on some weight and doesn't look thin anymore. Also, he has a playmate now and they both play together really well. She is a medium size (50 lbs.) female dog mixed breed and she and Smokey get along really well.  She was a stray that a friend of mine had and couldn't keep and couldn't find a home for her so I took her. She is a nice dog and so far it is working out well. The vet thinks she is about the same age as Smokey. WE named her Abby. We still have Rocky and he is 13 now. Hope everything is well with you.  Sincerely, Janet Gray

I thought you would enjoy seeing these pictures of Smokey.  It took a year and a half but now the cats and Smokey are all friends. The cats come in and don't pay any attention to him now.  Smokey is probably the nicest dog that we have ever had. He is three now but still as playful as ever. I tell everyone to get a rescue dog.  Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a great new year.  Janet

Snowy

Dear Lisa,

Thank you for letting us adopt Snowy. Your advice was right on! She is the perfect fit for our family. She is sweet, affectionate and lots of fun. My kids ADORE her. As a first time adoptee from a rescue, I was very concerned with how nervous and quiet she seemed to be. Both you and our vet assured us that if we just gave her a chance to settle in, that she would become a great dog. Well, you were both totally correct! Snowy is so sweet, so gentle and just the best dog we could have hoped for! My advice to prospective families who may be reading this is to just talk to Lisa about what you want (or don’t want) in a dog and let her choose the best fit. She really does know her dogs and their personality. We are 100% happy with our new family member!!! (The photo is of my husband petting Snowy on her first camping trip with us!) Not the best picture of Snowy, but we had an awesome time!

Spot (formerly Sparky)

Hey Lisa,

Just thought I would check in. I cannot remember if I told you that I had accepted a job in Waynesboro and am continuing with my nursing classes. Sport is doing very well. He is adapting to his new surroundings. He is also getting more accustomed to the grooming table. I have sent in the paperwork to AKC for an ILP for him, so we can start his obedience career. As soon as I can find my digital camera (I am still unpacking), I will send you some pictures. Also, his last heartworm test was still negative--good news. Hope all is going well with you.

Elizabeth

Summer

Hello again Lisa,

Summer- Girl is doing great as you can see she is well rested....I'll get some outdoor pictures sent to you as soon as the weather turns better.  She was a bit timid when we first brought her home, from the move I suppose, soon after she was acting like a puppy again. I have had several dogs as pets in my life, and I can honestly say she has been the best of them all...Great listener, loves to play fetch, vocal only when seriously provoked, never begs for food while we are eating a meal, really awsome manners this dog has, you all did a great job training her while in your care. Oh, and she is just as nice as could be with our little one, plays well, never bites, and withstands all the kisses and bear hugs she gets. Summer really loves to snuggle and be a part of the family, words can't describe the joy she has brought us....

 Sunny

When we first got Sunny a year ago, she had little legs, little ears, a little snout and she didn’t smile or cuddle. A year and a thousand pictures later, Sunny loves to snuggle, smiles and grew so much that she looks like an imperial walker from Empire Strikes Back. I remember when we first got her she climbed into the back window of the car. She tried to do that a couple weeks ago and she didn’t fit. Sunny Has A brown stripe on her back that goes up like a Mohawk when she sees the neighbor’s cats, it’s really funny to see. Sunny has walked in races, entered fun dog shows including one where she won 4th place in the cutest medium dog contest and has been thrown in my best friends pool a couple times. Plus, she is learning to jump through a hoop! She loves to world watch, chase=2 0squirrels as well as sing at the mail man, and all my friends love her and her big ears. Sunny is a sweet girl and even though she chews my stuffed animals and steals my socks, I’m very happy to have her.

Tiffany

Hey Ms. Lisa!

I just wanted you to know I love my new mommy and daddy.  They are the best parents and spoil me so much (they even let me sleep in the bed with them)!  I look so much better now.  I have a full coat of now gorgeous white hair (instead of that patchy yellow fur I had) and I am bigger now and eating great!  I have met lots of other dogs and have loved going on runs with mommy at Prince William Park.  I've also learned how to sit, lay down, fetch, and walk without a leash.  Thank you for taking care of me and finding me a great family!

WoofWoof,

Tiffany

Thank you so much Lisa and I hope everything is going great.

Brittany and Matt Nicholson

Turbo
Turbo is doing very well.  He is a very social dog and has made several friends including Duke (Sheltie) & Barron (mini Australian Shepherd) who are my sister’s dogs, Piper and Dakota (teacup Yorkies) my parent’s dogs, Sam and Bella (two neighborhood dogs that are also rescues), Toby (another neighborhood dog, a West Highland Terrier), and Swirly from two doors down (looks like a shepherd / lab mix).  A picture of Turbo and Swirly out on our deck looking in the back door is attached.  Swirly always come over to play with Turbo when he is outside.

We started obedience school two weeks ago at Barking Hills in Lebanon, NJ.  They are very good trainers who have trained both of my sister’s dogs.  We go every Saturday and so far Turbo is doing well.  He only has one classmate, Marley, a show-quality Beagle, so Turbo gets lots of individual attention.  He isn’t very good with walking on a leash just yet, but we’ll get there.  Our trainer helped us to figure out what he is mixed with – Miniature Pinscher (she has Min-Pin’s of her own).  If you Google ‘Muggin’ or ‘Carlin Pinscher’ you can see some pics.  They look just like Turbo!

Turbo sometimes goes to work with Shawn, and other times he stays home.  He has a bed set up at Shawn’s work (picture attached) and everyone there just loves him!  His favorite place at home is on the couch.  He has a green blanket and a red pillow that he always burrows under (more pictures attached).  It is the funniest thing.  He has gained a few pounds (was 17lbs when we got him home and is now at 20) and is in good health.  We’re going to have to cut back on the food now, as the vet said he shouldn’t go too far over 20 lbs.

That’s about it for now.  I’ll try to send more pictures over soon.
Take care, Kim

Zoey (formerly Piper)

Hi Lisa,

Just an update on Zoey (we renamed her). She is doing great. She has made herself right at home. She is definitely queen bee.. Leo and her are getting along great. He is very gentle with her.. And she is relentless with him. she is constantly jumping on him, biting his ears and tail and he just takes it.

She had a bit of the runs, the vet changed her food to Prescription Science Diet and gave her some medicine and she is doing ok now.. She sleeps through the night in her crate without a problem.

I have attached a current picture of her. She loves to chase and catch the lightning bugs and moths...

Thanks, Kathy Gessner

Hi,

Zoey just turned 4 and she is the sweetest dog... We have added another addition to our brude ... a rescued Rottweiller who is 1 .... Please find attached the picture of our group.

Zoey is the one in the middle. The other picture is just Zoey.
