On January 22, 2005, Momma was found to be so sick and pregnant at a local shelter that we could not leave her behind. After picking Momma up, she was taken to Aquia Animal Hospital in Stafford, VA so she could be treated for pneumonia. Momma was found to be pregnant with 11 puppies and actually gave birth a few days later to 9 live puppies. However after a few short days, the puppies began to die. It was found that because of Momma's health issues during pregnancy, the puppies were not getting their proper nutrition and within a week all the puppies were dead. The expenses occurred during this week were over $1000.00. Both Momma and puppies were treated around the clock by Springfield Emergency Veterinary Hospital and Aquia Animal Hospital. Second Chance Rescue requests that any donations for Momma be sent to
Aquia Animal Hospital, 878 Garrisonville Rd, Stafford, Va 22555.
Donators should write in the Memo Section of their check: Second Chance Rescue. Click here to visit our donation page.
We have had several of our dogs find their permanent home recently. We wish them all the best and look forward to hearing about their new homes.
While we are a small organization and do not have the resources to save several dogs each week, we do believe that we can do our part by saving one dog at a time. Our list of adopted dogs that have found a permanent loving family keeps growing. Thank you for finding the love in your heart to help our loving animals.
NEWS FLASH: Patriot, one of our longest fosters has finally found his forever home. Yeah Patriot! Patriot, affectionately known to us as Patty came to us on Sept 10, 2003. Since both founders had responded to the Pentagon as first responders, we wanted to do our part to celebrate life and thus Patriot came to us on what the shelter told us would be his final day.
Second Chance Rescue would like to thank his fosters, Alex and Jerry for never letting go of the "faith"! For the last 2 months, they have shared their home and helped to find Patriot his "forever home"! They worked tiredlessly to teach him the finer things in life, such as: How not to go to the bathroom on the new white rug and how to go and jump in the mud hole just after you get a bath. I know with their help, Patriot's new home will be the end in his journey to find a loving "Mom and Dad". To Patriot, I say, "Way to Go and don't forget Grandpa's shoes! He owes me!" This year, in honor of September 11, 2001, we found Justice. Justice turned out to be an older fellow but quickly found his new forever home in Falls Church, Va...Way to go, Justice!
